MISTAKE 5: CHOOSING THE WRONG SPF
SPF stands for 'sun protection factor' and is often labeled on the sunscreen tube. The SPF rating on on any type of sun protective product shows the effectiveness that it has against the suns UV rays. The higher the number, the more effective it is at blocking the suns UV rays. The best way to judge your recommended SPF factor is by your own skin colour, or desired sun protection. The naturally darker your skin is, the more tolerant your skin will be to the sun, however, lighter skin colours tend to burn a lot faster when exposed to the sun. That's why it's recommended you choose at least an SPF 30 sunscreen and at best an SPF 50+ sunscreen.
A sun protection factor of 15 means that the sunscreen or lotion will block at least 93% of the suns UVB rays.
A sun protection factor of 30 means that the sunscreen or lotion will block at least 97% of the suns UVB rays.
A sun protection factor of 30 means that the sunscreen or lotion will block at least 98% of the suns UVB rays.
